ABINGDON, U.K. and PRINCETON, N.J., July 12th, 2005 – Orchid Cellmark Inc. (Nasdaq: ORCH), a leading worldwide provider of identity DNA testing services, today announced that it has been selected by the U.K. Child Support Agency as its exclusive provider of paternity DNA testing services. Orchid Cellmark delivers its paternity testing services in the U.K. under the Cellmark brand. The three-year award, which includes a two-year extension option available to the Child Support Agency, has the potential to generate £500,000 per year in revenue. Orchid Cellmark was selected following a competitive bid process. Further details of the award were not disclosed.

“We believe that this exclusive award to Orchid Cellmark reflects our continued position as one of the most trusted and respected DNA testing providers in the world,” said David Hartshorne, commercial director of Orchid Cellmark’s European business. “Over the last 18 years we have performed hundreds of thousands of DNA paternity tests and have established a solid reputation for the quality and professionalism of our service. This award by the U.K. Child Support Agency reinforces our position as one of the largest providers of paternity and family relationship testing in Britain, paralleling our status as one of the largest providers of these services in the U.S.”

Orchid Cellmark’s DNA testing procedures are guided by rigorous quality assurance systems. Accredited by the Department for Constitutional Affairs, Orchid Cellmark’s results are accepted as evidence of paternity in U.K. courts of law. Its U.K. laboratory is accredited to international ISO quality standards ISO9001:2000 and ISO17025, and abides by the voluntary Code of Practice for Genetic Paternity Testers in the U.K.

To obtain a private paternity test, prospective customers can contact Orchid Cellmark’s customer service center at +44 (0)1235 528000 or via the internet at www.cellmark.co.uk. DNA samples are obtained through a simple mouth swab collected by a doctor. The confidential, conclusive testing results are returned to customers in approximately five business days.
